Why use play?
From my experience of working playfully and therapeutically I have learned that the head can rarely make sense of feelings….therefore intellect can only part answer the questions we have about why some people struggle in relationships, there are just no words to describe the challenges.
Even very articulate people including, children and adults, sometimes struggle to encapsulate a strong feeling/emotion in spoken verbs and nouns but they can ‘show’ you through play, drama, art, aggression, caring etc.
This is why I use creativity in all my work, to be able to sit alongside those I work with and find ways they can help me see a glimpse of their world as felt and experienced by them. An old saying ' a problem shared is a problem halved' often is so true, I find.
